The Golden Deer King

Inspired by the Jataka tale of Buddhas past life as the Golden Deer King. As the tale goes, the Deer King remained hidden in a forest and ruled over all the animals. One day he stumbled across a man drowning in the river and saved him. The man promised not to tell of their meeting, but when he heard the reward for the Golden Deer King’s head, he broke his promise. An army attacked the Deer Kings land. However, once the Deer King explained how the man betrayed him, they stopped their attack and followed and learned from the Deer King.

This piece derives from this tale as well as implementing lotus flowers which are very symbolic in Buddhist history and culture.
